FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE

What Is  Functional Medicine?
Functional medicine is the art of looking at the body and its many pieces and determine how everything is working together. This philosophy goes hand-in-hand with Holistic Chiropractic. Dr. Jacobi looks at the entire body and how each part is working together. The body is only as strong as its weakest link. Our job is to find the weakest link and determine how to make it work better, so your entire self can work optimally.
What Techniques Do You Use?
Dr. Jacobi utilizes Applied Kinesiology along with urine, hair, stool, and saliva testing. Applied Kinesiology can give us a lot of information, but if we want to look deeper at your issues getting lab work is important. We can determine how you are responding to treatment with actual values and data. Dr. Jacobi is studying with the Functional Medicine University to further deepen her knowledge in this field and to continue bringing innovative care to her patients.
What Type of Lab Work Do You Use?
Hormone Testing: Dr. Jacobi uses DUTCH (Dry Urine Test For Comprehensive Hormones) from Precision Analytical. The DUTCH test was created to provide insight into many of these concerns, working to deliver the most complete assessment of sex and adrenal hormones, along with their metabolites, in one easy to administer test. No blood to draw, spitting in tubes or filling up jugs of urine.
Stool Analysis: For those patients that experience bloating, digestive issues, or concerns about candida/yeast, Dr. Jacobi uses Doctor Data Labs to look at the microbiome of your body. This is a very simple test that provides invaluable data about your GI system and what can be done to heal it.
What Types of Conditions Can Be Tested?
We work with many men, women, and children that are experiencing hormonal, adrenal, thyroid imbalances. In women, these can range from: menopause, weight gain, fatigue, low libido, premenstrual symptoms (PMS), mood swings, or depression, these symptoms can lead to more serious problems if misdiagnosed.  Men also experience a gradual loss of their hormones that are produced in the gonads and adrenal glands. Testosterone and DHEA levels fall and estrogen levels tend to rise. Male menopause, or what doctors call 'andropause', can create symptoms of weight gain, lower sex drive, depression, hair loss, sleeping troubles, fatigue, and increased prostate cancer risk. Many men feel like this is part of getting older and do not think there is treatment to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Many people suffer with GI issues that can really prohibit their body's from working optimally. Chronic GI issues can be linked to inflammation, pain, poor digestion, allergies, anxiety/depression, IBS/IBD, Crohn's, "Leaky Gut" etc. Dr. Jacobi can run several different functional medicine tests to look at the microbiology of your GI system and also see how your body is actually digesting foods. This is a fantastic way to get very specific in how we treat GI issues.
